Question 1

Does the generator check whether a name is available?

Accepted Answer

No. The tool only suggests ideas and does not query the Registro Mercantil Central (Spain’s Central Commercial Registry) or any other official register. Availability is confirmed with the negative name certificate.

What is the negative name certificate?

Accepted Answer

The certificación negativa de denominación social is issued by the Registro Mercantil Central to confirm that the chosen name does not match an existing company. It is generally required to sign the deed of incorporation of an SL or SA.

Question 3

Do I need to add “S.L.” to the name?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The name of a Spanish limited company must include “Sociedad de Responsabilidad Limitada”, “Sociedad Limitada” or the abbreviations S.R.L. or S.L. For a Sociedad Anónima, “Sociedad Anónima” or S.A.

Question 4

Can I use an English name?

Accepted Answer

English or international words are often used in Spanish company names, but admissibility is decided by the Registro Mercantil Central when you apply for the certificate.
